Tis the season to create your Vision Board

A Vision Board is when we combine our goals with manifesting our ideal life (for the year ahead, or next 2-5 years).

“Where Attention goes Energy flows;

Where Intention goes Energy flows!”― James Redfield

When we sit down to create our Vision Board, it provides us with the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of what goals are important for our year ahead and what an ideal picture of our ‘best life’ could look like.  We then create this intentional vision of our future using imagery, words and affirmations to match the goals, dreams and desires.

The two main ways to create your Vision Board include:

  • Hard copy: Cut out imagery and words from magazines (or from online downloads/brochures/photos etc) and paste onto a backing board (e.g. A3 cardboard or pin onto a chalk/pin board).

  • Soft copy: Create a virtual Vision Board using online imagery/words etc.  This can also be printed off.

The key is to have your Vision Board somewhere you will see it regularly and often.  This assists with keeping us motivated and positive along the journey.

And while the research into Vision Boards is fairly limited to date, available studies and comments do support the positive psychological impact they have.

Vision boards better connect us to our goals and a mindset shift (of possibility and positivity) can occur, motivating us towards them.  Vision Boards have also been shown to improve our wellbeing - increasing positive feelings and life satisfaction, while reducing negative feelings (Ruth Adams, UK study 2019).

5 Steps to Create Your Vision Board:

  1. Allocate (uninterrupted) time to this fun activity.  Consider playing uplifting music, light a candle, and make a pot of tea.

  2. Clarify your key goals and areas you want to focus on for the year ahead (career, relationship/s, travel, hobbies, health etc).  How would that look for you if it came true.  Consider words, brands, imagery that depicts you achieving this goal.

  3. Find your images/words etc – search online or through old magazines and cut out and create a collage that is beautiful to you.  Put key goals front and centre.

  4. Display your Vision Board somewhere you will see often/daily.  Consider also making it your screen saver image.

  5. Smile every time you see it and feel it in your heart and review every six/12 months and update with any new images etc.

Most of all, enjoy the experience of creating it.  I’ve made several Vision Boards over the years and keep them as beautiful mementos.  Below is my more recent one however there is no right or wrong way to lay it out so make yours suit you.
